April 20/17: Congratulations 2017 CALA Scholarship Winners!

Congratulations Cheryl Morgan and Andrea Boyle on your full-ride scholarship win (Regt’n, Travel & Accommodation) to ALA’s Regional Conference this fall.  Cheryl won, by random draw of those in attendance,  at the Firm Leaders Luncheon on February 9th and Andrea won hers yesterday at the AGM.  We can’t wait to hear whether they pick Nashille or Las Vegas.

Win a 2017 Conference Scholarship

The Executive Board is pleased to announce that two (2) full-ride scholarships (registration, flight, accommodation) are being given away again this year to ALA’s Regional Legal Management Conferences in 2017.

Congratulations to Cheryl Morgan of Vogel LLP on her win of 1 of these scholarships that was drawn at the Law Firm Leaders Luncheon on February 9th.

The 2nd scholarship will be drawn amongst those CALA members in attendance at the Annual AGM on April 19th….watch for email details to come, about the AGM.

The format for this ALA conference was changed in 2015 to include identical conference content (format, speakers and schedule) in each of 2 separate locations (West & East).  This year’s Regional Legal Management Conference is being held in Las Vegas (Sept.8-10) or Nashville (Oct.12-14).

All CALA members are encouraged to attend this very worthwhile conference https://www.alanet.org/events/2017-events

In addition, if you are a CALA Member in good standing and attend ANY ALA Conference (1 per CALA Fiscal year (Apr-March ), you are eligible for the previously announced $600.00 scholarship rebate.  Please submit a copy of your paid Conference Registration Confirmation to CALA’s treasurer, kmysyk@mcleod-law.com.

August 2016 – CALA Scholarship Change/Update

The Executive Board has reviewed the CALA Scholarship offering and has elected to 1) increase the scholarship to $600.00 (from $400) to accommodate for rising ALA conference registration fees and/or accommodate for US currency exchange and 2) extend the scholarship to include ALA ‘Specialty’ Conferences that have previously been excluded from the scholarship offering.

If you are a CALA Member in good standing and attend ANY ALA Conference (1 per CALA Fiscal year (Apr-March) max.), please submit a copy of your Conference Registration Confirmation to CALA’s treasurer , kmysyk@mcleod-law.com .

July 2016 – New Financial Subsection Chair

Please join us in welcoming Nayla Mawji of Field Law as CALA’s new Financial Subsection Chair while our former chair of that subsection, Holli McVean, has moved to a Board position.

Welcome Nayla!

June 14/16 – CALA Scholarship’s Available

Did you know…CALA offers a $400.00 scholarship reimbursement to any CALA member who attends one of ALA’s 2016 National or Regional Conferences.  The conditions are simple:  Be an active CALA member, register and attend one of either of ALA’s National Conference (Spring) or ALA’s Regional Conferences (Fall/3 locations/formerly Business of Law Conference) and submit a copy of your paid ALA Registration following the event.  Note: Specialty conference are not applicable.  In some cases, this scholarship covers the cost of registration and is good incentive for members to speak to their firm’s about the value to both the member and their firm of attending these conferences.  Reimbursement to the individual or firm that paid the registration fee can be submitted to CALA’s Treasurer, Karryn Mysyk (kmysyk@mcleod-law.com).

June 6/16: Congratulations CALA Scholarship Winners

Congratulations to Jin Wu of Stikeman Elliott and Alanna Loftus of Lawson Lundell on their CALA full-ride scholarship win (conference registration, flight & accommodation) to ALA’s 2016 Regional Legal Management Conference in the location of their choosing.  Jin won her scholarship as an attendee at our CookBook Company Cooks event and Alanna won hers as an attendee at the AGM.

The format for this ALA conference was changed in 2015 and referred to as Business of Law Conference but ALA was unable to secure branding rights to this title so the name of the conference has changed back to include the term Regional but the format is the same as their 2015 format.  Identical conference content (format, speakers and schedule) in each of 3 separate locations (East, West & Central).  This year’s conference is being held in Boston (Sept.8-10), Phoenix (Oct.6-8) & Indianapolis(Oct.27-29).

All CALA members are encouraged to attend this very worthwhile conference https://www.alanet.org/events/
